What do ‘Volunteers’ have to do with LCGSP?
Lawrence County Guardianship Services Program is primarily a network of trained Volunteers working with the local Court System in an effort to advocate for and protect the rights of adults and help to make important life decisions in the least restrictive manner for those who have been deemed mentally incapacitated by the legal system.
LCGSP and it’s volunteers become involved ONLY when an adult’s ability to make sound decisions have been compromised and there is no other alternative or persons to speak on behalf of the individual. You could be that person!
What is LCGSP looking for in Volunteer Guardians?
Coordinating a program of volunteers who are willing to fill the gap, LCGSP is looking for adults who have a heart for helping others, a little extra time each week, and the basic capacity for managing or learning how to manage the ward’s legal and financial matters in a way the ward would want them handled.
How does LCGSP select Volunteer Guardians?
Volunteers must come to the guardianship office to fill out an application. There is a short interview process (or referral), a background check and criminal history check on all potential Volunteers. All volunteers accepted into the program are enrolled in a 10 week training program and then sworn in by the court as volunteer advocates. |
